Capricorn One (1977)

Scripted in 1972 just three years after the moon landing, this slow burn, engrossing suspense takes a conspiracy theory levelled at that real-world event and applies it to a future faked Mars landing with the astronauts involved (James Brolin, Sam Waterston, and, ahem, OJ Simpson) realising themselves in grave danger given they have become keepers of an awfully big government secret while hidden out-of-public-view, supposedly on the red planet.

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994)

With Anna Nicole Smith doubling the number of tragic Hollywood elephants-in-the-room, perhaps it is no wonder this third Naked Gun movie is the least funny (and most racist and LGBTI intolerant) of the series with bumbling Police Squad! police officer Frank Drebin experiencing marital problems while investigating a bomb threat against the annual Academy Awards ceremony.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1998)

Taking its cues from deadly serious police procedurals like Dragnet, this cornball comedy, the first in a series of three equally eye-roll inducing, groanworthy spoofs, introduces Frank Drebin, a police officer as bungling and accident-prone as The Pink Panther's Inspector Clouseau, in this instalment charged with protecting the Queen from a troop of remote-controlled killers - oh, and that reminds me: OJ Simpson is in it.
