The Babadook (2014)


Amelia is already devastated by the car accident death of her partner when her son's behavioural problems worsen and he starts fixating on a top-hatted, clawed storybook character called the Babadook, in this inventive Australian horror-thriller-drama with a dry sense of humour and something intelligent to say.

Snowtown (2011)


To read in articles the bare details of the infamous murders that took place in South Australian town, Snowtown, is disturbing to say the least but this movie turns over every stone, pours over every bleak detail, and is a harrowing, horrifying character study -- of those responsible and of an all-too-familiar small town country Australia.
